History

Out With the Old (Arrowhead). In With the New (Davie Golf & Country Club)!

Davie Golf & Tennis Club opened in 1973, originally designed by Bill Watts. In December 2008, the course was purchased by the Florida Department of Transportation for a proposed project to expand and improve the drainage of Interstate-595. In order to improve I-595 drainage, it required increasing the number of lakes and digging into the golf course, fairways, greens and rough.

The drainage improvement project is completed and the golf course is essentially a brand new golf course as a result of the new lake system that was constructed due to the expansion of I-595. The soil from the excavation of the lakes has been deposited on the golf course to create all new contours from tee to green.

Additionally, the course routing has been modified to enhance the enjoyment of the course and to accommodate the additional lakes. All of the courses features, including the additional lakes, have been thoughtfully designed to ensure an enjoyable and exciting challenge for all levels of ability.

Davie G&CC has received all new turf along with a new irrigation system to assist the greens superintendent in the effort to conserve as much water as possible. The grass chosen for the tees, fairways, roughs, and greens is hybrid Bermuda grass, which will provide a very high quality playing surface. The perimeter grass of the course will be Bahia grass, a very drought tolerant turf that will minimize the use of chemicals and water. It will also provide a very nice contrast between the in play and out of play areas of the course.

Several hundred native trees have been planted to enhance its beauty and to provide definition of each hole’s landing area and green site.
