What Can We Say About the Play at Davie Golf & Country Club? How About Splendid! Perfect! Amazing!

Get out your Thesaurus — we may be here a while trying to come up with just the right
adjectives to describe the NEW course at Davie Golf & Country Club.

“This course is a lot of fun to play”… “Great course conditions”… “The greens are wicked fun”… “Nothing like the old Arrowhead”… “Pace of play was good”… “Staff is very friendly and made us feel welcome”… “Nice to have option to walk”… “Best junior rates of any course in the area”… “Free apples on the course was nice touch”… $10 cart fees is unheard of in this region, thanks for doing things differently”… “Overall excellent value”… “I will play it again”. – Davie G&CC Player Comments

With a natural agronomy program in place that’s the best in the industry for delivering superior playing conditions at the highest environmental standards, players are assured of fun playing conditions every round, every season.

The program we strictly adhere to is a blessing and a curse. The blessing is you simply won’t find better playing conditions in the area for the price.

The cursing? That would be our competitors’!

Out with the old (Arrowhead). In with the new (Davie Golf & Country Club)!

Davie Golf & Tennis Club opened in 1973, originally designed by Bill Watts. In December 2008, the course was purchased by the Florida Department of Transportation for a proposed project to expand and improve the drainage off Interstate-595. In order to improve I-595 drainage, it required increasing the number of lakes and digging into the golf course, fairways, greens and rough.

“With our links-style layout, undulations of green complexes, we offer every skill-level of golfer a value-oriented, fun atmosphere from check-in through completion of your round — with many promotional giveaways and contests.” — Danny Boswell, Pro

The drainage improvement project is completed, giving us essentially a brand new golf course. The soil from the excavation of the lakes has been deposited on the golf course to create all new contours from tee to green. FUN!

Additionally, the course routing has been modified to enhance the enjoyment of the course and to accommodate the additional lakes. All of the features, including the additional lakes, have been thoughtfully designed to ensure an enjoyable and exciting challenge for all levels of ability.

Davie G&CC has received all new turf along with a new irrigation system to assist the greens superintendent in the effort to conserve as much water as possible. The grass chosen for the tees, fairways, roughs and greens is hybrid Bermuda, which will provide a very high quality playing surface.

Several hundred native trees have been planted to enhance the course and to provide definition of each hole’s landing area and green site.

A wonderful re-design, courtesy of Signature Golf Design with Harrison Minchew as the primary architect.

The course has been designed to the same standard of design that Mr. Minchew used while working as Arnold Palmer’s Senior Golf Course Architect.

While with Palmer’s design firm, Mr. Minchew was not only under the tutelage of Palmer, the King of Golf, but also Ed Seay, Arnold’s partner for more than 30 years and a past president of the American Society of Golf Architects.

The beautiful redesign of the course consists of rolling fairways and multi-tiered greens. Concrete cart paths run along the tee box areas and along only a few of the fairways.

There are four sets of tees for all 18 holes as the course stretches from 4,960 yards (forward tees) to 6,375 yards, with lakes and contoured greens offering a challenge for golfers of most skill levels.
